The role of religion in the Russia-Ukraine conflict

BATAK CENTER FOR EUROPEAN STUDIES -- The sub tropical Crimean peninsula at the Southern tip of Ukraine is now occupied by Russia. Ukrainian troops are surrounded, inside their bases.

19th Century Russia believed it was uniquely placed to unify humanity, because it sits between the Catholic West and the non-Christian East. President Putin has revived this idea. He has re-married Russian Orthodox religion and Russian nationalism.
